About Maha Kumbh Mela Yatra 2013 at Allahabad India


Kumbh Mela is one of the great roving festivals that have moved around India for more than four thousand years where millions of devotees gather to wash away their sins in the holy waters. The Kumbh Mela is the festival of urn that pours out the nectar of immortality. 2013 is the year of celebrating the Maha Kumbh at Allahabad which comes after 144 years, after completing 12 Purna kumbh melas.   • 18th February (Monday) - Bhisma Ekadashi Snan
  • 25th February (Monday) - Maghi Purnima Snan
After submitting the final blueprint of Maha Kumbh 2013 and seeking the budget of Rs 1,924 cr. the union and State Government have mooted the concept of Green Kumbh. Under the Green Kumbh concept, the mela administration imposing a ban on the use of polythene in and around mela campus to avoid any kind of air, sound and water pollution. The authorities have also decided to carry out aerial monitoring during the Mahakumbh. No waste is allowed to be thrown into the river. The mela administrative has planned to offer saplings to pilgrims to promote plantation drive in the area. The police too are holding meetings to give shape to Green Kumbh concept. Environment friendly look to 64 roads in and around mela campus is given and permanent ghats are constructed on the banks of river Ganga and Yamuna. For the implementation of this drive various NGO’s educational institutes, social organizations are approached to spread the message of Green Kumbh. The violators would be dealt strictly on the spot.
